1-day Spring Cleaning Challenge!

Posted by   + Show Post

I figure I better get my spring cleaning done before it is officially Summer, LOL.  I found this 1-day spring cleaning challenge, and it is my goal today to get everything done (the ones in pink are done already).  Anyone want to join me?  LOL.

Spring Cleaning Challenge
  1. Dust light fixtures and ceiling fans--microfiber dampened with vinegar is good.
  2. Sweep cobwebs in corners and along the ceiling.
  3. Dust all horizontal surfaces—tops of doors, picture frames, shelves, baseboards, counters...
  4. Magic Eraser or spot-clean the walls.
  5. Wipe down circulating fans, wall, and floor vents with a cloth dampened with vinegar.
  6. Get a new  vacuum filter (seriously, when's the last time you did it?)
  7. Take everything off the bed and launder, including things you might wash less often like comforters or bedskirts.
  8. Sprinkle the mattress with baking soda and let sit for at least an hour, then vacuum it all up with the brush attachment. You can do this while your bedclothes are in the wash to save steps!
  9. Vacuum all upholstered furniture and vacuum or launder curtains.
  10. Take rugs and mats outside and beat with a broom handle.
  11. Vacuum the floor REALLY thoroughly before you put the rugs back down.
  12. Spot-clean the carpet.
  13. Give the kitchen a deep clean, especially the parts you usually skip (drip-pans, anyone?)
  14. Check expiration dates in your fridge, pantry, and medicine cabinet, and bring things to the front—or to the garbage!—accordingly.
  15. Give the bathroom(s) a deep clean, especially the parts you usually skip. Here's an easy, green method for the shower!
  16. Go through your make-up and throw out anything that smells funny or you never use.
  17. Wash windows inside and out. A mix of water and vinegar with a microfiber cloth work great!
  18. Scrub out all window tracks with soapy water and an old toothbrush.
  19. Go through your wardrobe and if there's things you never wear or have worn out either donate them or put them in a rag-bag (for craft projects!)
  20. Bring summer clothes to the front and hide winter clothes in the back.
  21. If you have a wool coat, bring it to the dry-cleaner's—I know, not cheap, but it's only once a year!
  22. Treat any dingy whites to a soak in vinegar or borax. Might be a good time to do the dishcloths, too!
  23. Polish and condition wood—anybody know a good green way to do this and nix the orange-glo?

I don't own a vaccum, so some of those are a little tough.

It's funny that we did clean the bathroom yesterday though, even before I saw the list! :)  I break it into chunks for the girls and they rotate.  Bathtub, pick up trash and sweep floor, sink and shelves, and toilet...

No carpet, no fans or vents...dusting was the challenge for my friend's facebook group 2 days ago so good there, we wash beds one or two at a time since there are 7 of us and 6 beds, but 2 Thursday, 2 yesterday...

I hardly wear any makeup these days and only own moisturizer with sunscreen, tinted moisturizer (I do live in very dry Wyoming), and some eye shadow, so no biggie there.  Windows I did not do and probably will not on the outside anyway, since it's actually raining! :)

We sorted clothes a couple of weeks ago, and the girls brought me down another bag yesterday, and our son did laundry and bleached the socks and kitchen wash cloths!

I think we're doing pretty well :).  I've got to go up to the hardware store this morning because the extra saw blade I bought disappeared and the boys can't finish the new shed till we find it or pick up a new one, so ta-ta!

I keep meaning to do it myself, but I suck at it.

I love that she tells you to just jump in in baby steps, and not to beat yourself up if you struggle, but just to take it one 5 minute hot spot at a time!

Oh yes, I'm in!  =)  I love any kind of challenge!  LOL!  I have done the wardrobe recently but could actually do it more precisely and stop hanging on to things!

I need to do some of those but I don't have a day off until Wednesday simple frown

I try to keep on top of everything.  So I"m not stuck doing so much at once but it does snowball sometimes!

juggling  Its a balancing act keeping a clean home and getting everyone everywhere, on time, too!

I have been doing fly lady for a while and I love that part too that you're not killing yourself but instead take baby steps in about 1 month my house was super clean and now I just maintain it  I have the most difficulty getting others to do their fair share
