How Do You Define "Eating Healthy"?

I'm on a diet now and finding that everyone's definition of healthy is different.  What do you consider "eating healthy" is for your kids.  Do you eat the same things they do or do you eat different foods?

we've recently started eating healthy.  For us, eating healthy is staying away from junk foods, cookies, candies, chips, etc.  We eat lots of fruits and veggies and have switched to only eating Whole Weat breads, pasta, tortillas.  We try to stick with healthy fats such as olive oil, almonds, avocados.  It hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be.

My kids are fairly picky eaters.  My 10 yr old dd won't eat red meat.  She just eats pork and chicken.  My youngest dd won't eat potatoes or certain vegetables.  I stay away from processed foods, foods with a lot of sodium, and pop.  We do a lot of vegetables and fruits.. mostly cucumbers, zuchini, fresh green beans that they like to dip in ranch.  My middle dd is the only one who doesn't put up a fight when I put something in front of her!  If we do eat cookies, we make them from scratch.  Ice cream is a rare treat, but they go through lemon and strawberry bars like crazy!

A mixed and balanced diet with lots of produce and less fats and sugars.  I have 7 people to feed, I'm not making separate meals!  :)  I try to cook as healthy as possible, but we do splurge sometimes.

I really try to limit their sweet treats.  The kids do eat too much processed food: hot dogs, chicken nuggets, etc.  They do like fruits and most veggies so that helps.

Eating healthy for us means limiting things like processed foods, sugars, salty foods, fatty foods, etc. I only go to the farmer's market and Amish market in our area for most of our foods now. They don't sell many unhealthy foods. It's mostly fruits, veggies, whole grain bread/pasta, organic meats, milk, etc. I make as much as I can from scratch. We just bought a juicer a few months ago and I AM IN LOVE!!! I use it everyday!! At first, it was an adjustment to not have our juice so sweet but now my family doesn't want anything else! It gets a little pricey but if you buy in bulk and stick to basics like apples and citrusy fruits, it's definitely doable. I do alot of my cooking on Sunday and Monday nights so we have enough for the week: soups, salads, and pastas are good and healthy for having around the house to snack on or add to a meal. Eating fish at least twice a week is also a great way to eat healthier. But for starters, get rid of the junk food in the house. Cookies, chips, anything packaged. It won't be long before you and your family feel the benefits! :)
