Emergency Preparedness

Posted by   + Show Post

One of the blogs that I subscribe to recently did a series on being prepared and organized for emergencies, and it got me to thinking.  Now I am not prepared to star on Doomsday Preppers by any means, but my family does live in the country, and we do stock up on certain things to get us through the winter when it is difficult or unpleasant to drive into town to pick up some little nothing we forgot.

Does your family have any emergency plans or preparations?  Or even just supplies in case of a bad storm or power outage?

For those of you who have been through recent storms or even something more extreme, did your family prepare ahead of time?  Could you?  How did you spend your time during the storm?

Okay, I have heard of Three Mile Island, I just never thought of it in abbreviation form :).

Quoting Vertical15:

Three Mile Island - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TMI - Its a nuclear power plant.

There is even a website for planning (http://www.derrytownship.org/index.php/public-services/tmi-emergency) and we get pamplets every couple months on what to do and where to go in the event that something should occur.  The schools have places they transport the kids that you can meet up with them there.  But really we are so close if something happened I don't think we could get out in time.

The whole Chernobyl thing somes to mind every now and then. . .

Quoting TigerofMu:

Okay, I'm silly.  What is TMI?  Other than too much information.

Quoting Vertical15:

We don't and I know we should.  We live within sight of TMI and every now and then I think about what could happen.

We have an office/pantry that is pretty well stocked. And a propane cook stove in case the power goes out and a bbq grill and my DH knows how to cook using a dutch oven as well. And a wind up radio and shake flashlights and candles and stuff like that. Plus a game cabinet stocked with old fashioned games and cards.
