My son turned 3 january 31st. Since he was about 6 months old he has been dealing with chronic constipation. After dealing with the PED for 2 years, we were sent to see a gast. specialist. the specialist did'nt do any test, he just said our son has functional constipation... and keeps him on a daily does of miralax to keep his stools going...

Last week my son's stools were green. Then last night after he had a movement, I noticed something all through his stool. Most of them looked like clusters of cross threads. and then the others were thin white string like things. the one above in the pic is the longest of the string ones that I found. I took him to the ER and they sent that off for test, that will be back in 7-to days, and they can't treat him until those test come back...

i called the specialist and informed him of this as well, they are supposed to call me back...

Now I"m wondering could this have been the reason/cause of his constipation issue since he was 6months 0ld? or is this something he has recently picked up?

I'm always checking his stools because of the constipation and because of the use of miralax... This is the first time I've saw this in his stool.

He doesn't act sick, no other signs. Has your child had a parasite, if so did it look like this? what was it called? how did they treat it? any info is appreciated.

My dd has been tested several times for parasites, from what I understand, they usually cause diarrhea. My dd had chronic diarrhea from 4m-4ys.

If you haven't seen it before, I'd say its new...

I'd say its a pinworm or a roundworm. Did they prescribe any meds to get rid of it?

I think it sounds more like a roundworm. I can't believe they are making him wait 7 days to treat...

I agree with above and my son has been struggling with chronic constipation from birth and is now 5. He's been on miralax for 3yrs and we've never seen this. Our drs have never ran stool tests except when having lots of loose and bloody and mucousy stools.

Looks like pin worms. Which is actually pretty easy to catch as a kid. They live in dirt outside from animals poopin them etc etc hand to mouth.
Is he under weight? Or kinda chunky but hardly eats? The worms don't come out till they are mature or there's just no room.
I only know this because my uncle got these many many times as a kid so my mom was a wee bit ocd about me washing my hands and playing in the dirt.

Pin Worms? I've been all over the internet, and from what I've came across pin worms don't get that long?

He was born big, and has stayed in the 100 percentile ever since. So it's hard to say about his weight. He i 3, but wears a 5 in clothes. his dad is a big guy, neither of them are fat or over weight - just big, evenly with weight and height.
