Is it just me?

 When people start talking about how the prisons and jails work and have never set foot inside one and/or don't have family incarcerated or working in a prison or jail, it annoys the hell out of me....is it just me or do any of you ladies get irked by the ignorant ramblings of those who really have no clue what they are talking about with this subject. I know that I only know what I am told about the system by my husband(CO) and my brother(inmate) but when some one says "Oh well everything should be taken out of jails and prison because they are in there for punishment" and then go in to this stupid rambling about how they should only have rec yard for weight lifting and thier beds and thats it.....its like they don't realize what will happen if you take EVERYTHING away from these guys who the books, letters, rec yard basketball and few little things like TV in the common area are like the only means they have for keeping a cool head. IDK....I guess I'm just a little more sensitive to the stupidity because I have people on both sides of the bars so to speak.

I completely understand, I hear all the time that CO's are always given the inmates stuff and they deserve to be locked up, that the inmates shouldn't have rec time or tv or anything like that. It really makes me mad becaues they don't realize that when you have to sit in a cell for hours on hours end doing nothing what kind of troubling thoughts do these inmates end up having? My SO is a CO and I can honestly say he is happy they have these things to help them get by in there. Recently a CO got stabbed in recption from an inmate that was being transfered through after coming out of solitary confinment. People honestly shouldn't ever open their mouths unless they have any sense of what goes on inside the prison.

 Exactly. There was a post on here about how prisons should be used only for those who can be rehab'd but everything taken away except like weights/fitness and if they can't be rehab'd put them to death. The girl had never been inside a prison, never had anyone incarcerated or working at a prison. Its like, they don't realize that if you take all that away, you're basically saying "hey let em get mad and risk the officers lives" They don't get that if you treat the inmates like animals, then they will behave as such which puts a lot of lives in jeopardy. IF they know nothing of the prison system(be it through inmate or CO, etc) they need to just not say a thing.

This guy at a bar overheard my hubby and a friend talk about the prison. He stopped their conversation and asked if they hit inmates with cinder blocks on chains. He had heard that is what happens. People are so clueless.

Coachy, I've noticed that people not only have a bad misconception about what the inmates have access to in prison but also how they are treated. Granted the treatment may not be completely unfounded(I've heard stories of how it used to be at the prison DH works at before they installed cameras) but a lot of the things they think go on are completely out there lol. DH said the stupidity and cluelessness of those who have never set foot in a prison nor have some one who has is very high and just needs to be over looked lol. It amazes him too that people still think they know how a prison should be run(IE Florida's governor and DOC secretary) and neither one have ever worked in a prison.

 I do get upset when people talk without knowing.. thats why I explain things to them in the best of my ability. I dont like that fact that they are closing jails in new york because of the budget, but spending money on things that are not nesesary.. for example, cable tv.  I dont agree with taking EVERYTHING away from the inmates, but there are things that I call luxury items and cable is one of them. 

Dont get upset next time.. just explain, people have no clue :)
