I am brand new here, and am looking for some good ideas. I am pregnant with my third child. This pregnancy isn't going as well as my others. My first pregnancy was picture perfect. Lost all my weight by 6 week check up, no stretch marks...PERFECT labor and delivery. Anyway, my second pregnancy was a little rougher. After that pregnancy I started gaining weight fast. My life was extremely hectic and stressful. In addition to that, my husband travels with his job, so we live in apartments, motel rooms, etc. We are always on the move. This usually means we eat out a lot. Now I am pregnant with my third child (due in Feb.) and am having a lot of complications. To begin with, I began this pregnancy being overweight. I needed to lose about 40lbs to get back to a healthy weight. Since I am pregnant, I am being discouraged from losing ANY weight. I have been diagnosed with two disorders with this pregnancy MTHFR and Hyperthyroidism. The crazy thing about all of this is that I don't hardly ever eat. About five months before I got pregnant, I started keeping track of my calorie intake daily. Very rarely would I consume more than 1000 calories. It was usually around 800. The exception to this is when we ate out. I had started excersizing daily, but this pregnancy has taken its toll, and I get exhausted very easily. I even have to nap after grocery shopping. The only thing I know to do, while I am pregnant, is change my eating habits. I am looking for low-fat, vegetarian recipes that are kid friendly. And of course if anyone has ANY other tips for me, I am all ears!!! I am due two days before my 30th birthday and want to start my 30's out right!!! I am hoping to make a complete lifestyle change that will last throughout the rest of my life.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me!!!
First off they are right in saying that you do not want to diet or try and lose weight while pregnant, however that does not mean you cant CHANGE your diet. :) From experience I can tell you that part of the reason you were not losing weight before is that thyroid problems block weight loss efforts. I have the opposite of yours though, I have Hypothyroidism. Also, if you were exercising on top of not eating more than 1000 calories, you will not lose weight either. Calories fuel your body therefore you need more of them the more you work out. I recommend reading through the south beach diet book, just because it explains medical concerns in weight loss where you can actually understand it. It also helps you understand your own bodies needs. You can also check out sparkpeople.com for sugestions or talk to your OB and just explain that you want a healthy diet and see what they recomend.
Good luck with your pregnancy!!
