Trying to eat healthier

I am having the toughest time right now.  I am eating healthier than I used to and trying to get my family to do the same. Everytime I want to make a meal my husband says "its not a healthy recipe is it?" I am so frustrated cause he also needs to eat healthier. He recently couldnt get life insurance cause of his height/weight proportion. He is larged boned but not really a large guy. I dont understand him being declined. If you saw him you would wonder yourself. I just cant break him of the "fatty foods" and he is negative when I want to cook mine. Anyone else have this same situation. You would think him being declined would give him heads up but he has no clue.

I DEFINITELY UNDERSTAND.  I HAD MY LITTLE BOY ALMOST 5 MONTHS AGO AND HAVE BEEN ON A DIET EVER SINCE (FOR HEALTH AND WEIGHTLOSS).  IT'S BEEN SO DIFFICULT.  MY GUY REFUSES TO EAT HEALTHY, AND HE REALLY, REALLY NEEDS TO.  LIKE WHEN WE GET FASTFOOD, HE ALWAYS GETS 3 BURGERS, LARGE FRIES AND A LARGE COKE...AND TRIES TO MAKE ME EAT THE SAME THING...AND GETS MAD WHEN I ORDER A SALAD.  WHEN I COOK (WHICH IS THE CASE 90% OF THE TIME) HE DOESN'T WANT GRILLED CHICKEN AND A BAKED SWEET POTATO (OR WHATEVER I MAKE) HE WANTS ME TO MAKE HIM FRIED CHICKEN AND MASHED POTATOES...OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.  IT WORRIES ME SO MUCH THAT HE EATS LIKE THAT!  I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.  I'VE TRIED EXPLAINING TO HIM THAT HE NEEDS TO BE HEALTHY SO HE WILL BE HERE TO SEE OUR BOY GROW UP, BUT HE JUST WON'T LISTEN.

Oh my gosh! It's great to know I'm not alone! My hubby does this to me all of the time. It is soooo annoying! I've lost 85lbs since Jan of 2008. When I first started eating better he was all for it. But he has slowly regressed back to his old eating habits. I want to keep the weight off. But I think he would be very VERY happy if I gained it all back. I think he felt alot more secure in our relationship when I was heavier.

If we are out and he wants to stop and get fast food, he gets mad and pouts if I don't get anything. He says I'm no fun @@ I don't like to eat out because I feel like I could make myself and my family something so much healthier (and cheaper) at home. But it makes it hard when you have someone pushing junk food at you all of the time. I mean, sure it taste good but I've worked too hard to eat that junk!

My solution has been to not worry about his pouting and eat what I like and buy the healthier ingredients for our meals. Such as leaner meats, lower fat cheeses, lots more fruits & veggies and if he doesn't like it he doesn't have to eat it. But inspite of doing this I'd still like to smack him for being a stubborn man! LOL

My husband was like this once upon a time. But I am a big non-dieter (hate the word) and once he saw how much weight I was losing and how much more energy I had, he kind of lost interest in arguing about it.

He used to whine when I made healthy meals, he's a big meat and potatoes kind of guy. So I started out by letting him decide what I would cook one night a week. And if I deemed it too un-healthy I just had a tiny amount of it and fixed myself a salad. This seemed to help him feel less deprived. Now he actually requests some of my new recipies that are healthier - things he would never have considered before.

We had a talk and I explained to him that this was going to be the way I cooked from now on, that it was not just another diet and would be over soon. He grumbled at first, but when I explained that I wanted this for us so we could be healthy he understood. And it seemed to help when I explained that by eating healthy 90% of the time then it left 10% of the time to eat whatever like at ball games and parties. He said that that really made sense to him.

Now he's actually lost 20lbs and he's asking for even more healthy foods and snacks. Now my big goal is to get him to add in exercise.
