Heather's Journey to Becoming Healthy!

Hi Everyone!  After reading the journals for the past few weeks, and gaining a lot of inspiration, I have decided to start my own.  So first let me give some background on me.

Im Heather, and I will turn 30 in January.  I have three wonderful kids.  Makenzie (5), Landon (3), and Gianna (just turned one in August).  I have been married for almost 7.5 years.  While I am a SAHM this year again, I am out of the house quite a bit doing a principal internship for my masters degree. 

I have been overweight most of my life.  I lived with an older sister and a younger brother that were stick thin.  Seriously...stick thin.  My metobolism just wasnt the same.  I ate better than they did when I was younger, yet I was still a chunk.  After coming home from my freshman year of college where I gained the "freshman fifteen"...twice...my mom made a comment to be about being fat.  (She denies it to this day...but it was the best thing she probably ever said to me that year!)  I worked my butt of that summer and lost 45 lbs while working two jobs to save for the next year of college.  The next 2.5 years I was in the 140s...which for my body is great!  I was wearing mostly 10s/12s.  I looked healthy and felt great!  I got married in June 2004 and was about 142.  When I got pregnant with Makenzie I was around 155-160.  (Went out to too many yummy places that first year of marriage.)  I ate like a cow.  I remember on Sundays eating 3 doughnuts on the way to church, and three on the way back, not to mention the gallon of milk I would down a DAY!  Yes, not really the best choice.  I was so sad I was 2800 miles away from my family pregnant..  Fast forward to Landon (#2)...I was around 185-190 when I got pregnant with him....and after he turned one our family lost our house due to my husband losing his job and my weight hit 200 lbs.  Thats about where I was when I got pregnant with Gianna.  I was close to 270lbs when I had her back in August 2010.  A few weeks after having her I was 238.  I started WW and had great success with the online program.  I did that from September 2010-December 2010.  Around January I was working out and doing well and had my weight around 210...well you know, life threw John and I a few more curve balls...and I resorted to the only thing I knew how to do, I ate my stresses away.  Fast forward again....end of August 2011..I was watching the news and heard a story about a baby boy (age 2) being snatched right in front of his parents.  His dad had to chase the guy and literally rip the child out of his arms.  I sat there thinking, oh crap, if that was me alone with the kids, would I have been able to save my child?  I can barely run out ot the car without huffing and puffing.  Thats when I decided no more excuses...I need to do this for me and my kids. 

I started planning what I was going to do atg the end of August.  I started September at 211 lbs.  I decided to cut soda out once and for all (my last diet coke was on September 4th!)  I also read about MFP here on this group (thanks so much!!)  and started tracking my calories and really watch what I put into my body for energy.  I also scheduled time to work out when my husband was around to watch the kids.  I work out Monday-Thursday in the morning and then Saturday and possibly Sunday if I do not have to be at church too early.  I am about to have to make a little change to it, due to John's schedule change, but I am still looking at at least 5 days..hopefully 6.   

As of today, I am 203lbs.  I went shopping today at JcPenneys and an xl actually fit me, and I was estatic.  I have been too heavy to shop at Kohls, JCP, or similar stores.  My mini goal was to be at 199.9 by September 30th, but I think I might have to realistically push it one week out, so by October 7th.  Another goal I have made is to be 190 by December 30th, and I would really like to be 185 by my birthday in January.   I know this journey is not going to be easy, but I finally feel that I have figured out what triggers my horrible eating habits.  I really hope that I can stick with it and see my ultimate goal 140 by Gianna's 2nd birthday in August!

Had a great last week walking 134k steps and over 65 miles!

Yesterday I went 40k and 18 miles. I am vowing to make 10k/day..no excuses. I have done it now for almost two weeks.

In the last week, I have had three personal bests!

I want to commit to using MFP again. I think that was a huge part of my previous success.

Woohoo for breaking new records! You can do it.
I personally can not stray too far from mfp..have been using it almost daily for almost 4 years. Sadly, it is a tool that i need to keep myself in check. I'm thankful for it, but hope to someday fly on me own. if not...then Im thankful for the tool. ;)
