So are journals really helpful? Is there any apps you'd recommend?
I sound cheesy, but seriously, a food journal has saved me. I thought I was eating healthy and still ate ridiculous amounts of sodium and fat (which is easy to do in this world we live in).
I use myfitnesspal.com and have the app for it on my Kindle, but sites like sparkpeople.com and livestrong.com are just as good, although I don't know if there are apps for the last two - I assume there are. It really depends on your preference.
What all do you track?
It's really helpful. I don't do it everyday (I probably should!), but it's very eye-opening to see things in black and white. Log every bite. I use sparkpeople.com, but there are also myfitnesspal.com and livestrong.com. The first two both have apps (not sure about livestrong). The SP app is pretty easy to use, and it's definitely handy for when I'm out and about.
Being good about logging my food really helps keep me on track when I fall off the wagon, or need a reality check during a plateau. I'm sure if I did this more regularly, I'd be further along in my journey. I just know that I'm not good about doing it every day.
I do log in my workouts, but I use the RunKeeper app more for that one (because it's a GPS app, so it's better for tracking my runs). Sometimes I log them in SP as well.

I'm on the move a lot, too, with two jobs and life. Apps are definitely helpful!

I am on the move alot. It is hard for me to get on the computer daily. So something on my android would be great, or a book/planner type deal.

Keeping a journal or log is the best to stay on target (you'd be surprised at how things somehow sneak in that don't get counted). Online, myfitnesspal.com is free, and also has a spot you can track your water intake if you want to. There's also loseit.com (ipod app) and sparkpeople. Paper and pen work fine too.
i recommend myfitnesspal.com ... REALLY helps! and it's available on the computer and iphone or android or blackberry ... it's great! helps you determine how many calories to consume. will send you reminders, track your progress. It will even compare your diet to recommend less carb/more protein or stuff like that. you can keep track of food, water, and exercise. a lot of things are already in the database, but it's super easy to add your own stuff too. I used it when I got serious about weight lsos and dropped 13 pounds in 2 months!
I agree with all of these ladies! Journals are awesome!
