I am thinking about getting one, probably the kind that straps around your chest and has a watch with it. Any opinions on them? Good brands? I have no idea what to look for.

I have a polar FT4.  I bought it on amazon.  You can get free shipping on it.  You put in your height, weight, age, sex.  so far I really like it.  It said that you needed to wet the band under the sink, but I have found that to not be true. Several others that I have them have the ft4 as well.  I think it was under $70.

OK, this is the one that I have.  It will tell you calories burned, hr, and so on.  It also has a free site you can put in your info to track stuff.

There were a few complaints that you could not see calories burned while you were working out but I found that to not be true, maybe it is now a newer model, but I am able to see calories, heart rate range, and time I have been wearing it all while I am working out.

They also say you can wear it in water.

I have a Timex T5G971, which I am very happy with.  Can't beat the price!
