I have a Kinect. I prefer it over the Wii as there are no remotes to use with a Kinect so there is no chance to cheat. It reads your whole body and the movement for games.
I don't use it for exercise, just for fun, but it gives a killer calorie burn on some games like the Sports games.

I love my Wii, and it was my main form of exercise for the first few months. I have recently gone back to it for the free steps. I can almost run during it, getting about 3300 steps in 30 minutes. There are other things I also play such as Just Dance and Zumba. You can get a good workout, if you put the effort into it. I love that our whole family can play it and we have a ton of games.
