It tracks my sleeping habits, how any steps I walk, the number of calories I burn daily, you can log your food...... amoung other things. 

And you can link it to myfitness pal. com

The premium membership is available, but really not required to get good use out of the FitBit. I've never felt a need to upgrade. The free services are awesome! I love it!! The subscription thing is part of why I chose it over the Body Bugg. I didn't want to have to pay to be able to use it, on top of an even higher initial cost.
