Kristin's Journey Journal

 Hello!

My name is Kristin.  I am a very busy SAHM who also homeschools her 3 kiddos (11 next week, 9 tomorrow, and 7).  I volunteer with my son at a wildlife rehab and at my daughter's dance studio.  On top of that I help my husband, who is a minister, as he needs me to.  Life is busy. That's been my excuse for my weight for years. "I'm too busy to work out!" or "I'm too tired!"  Last year I took an adult dance class as some "me" time and had such a ball.  I really want to do it again this year, but some of this weight needs to come off first so that I can move easier and I can be more flexible in order to really enjoy the class.

Last month my DH (40) ended up in the hospital for 4 days with chest pains.  He's too young for that.  It was a very good wake up call for both of us.

So, with rewards dotted along the way (when I lose 10 pounds, I'm getting my hair done; 25 pounds I'll sign up for a dance class, etc), he and I are going to start our workout together.  Our kids are excited and will be doing some with us as well.  Never too early, especially since we've been teaching them some really bad habits concerning diet and excercise.  As a family, we're trying something: for every 1/2 hr of excercise, we'll be awarded a point.  For every pound or inch lost, we'll also be given a point. For every time the kids do a chore or are particularly helpful or (fill in the blank, you get the idea), they'll get a star.  5 stars = 1 point.  As a family, we're going to see how many points we can earn.  At 100 points, we'll go do something fun.  For our first 100 points, they want to go cosmic bowling. So that's our first goal.  I'm hoping to make excercise fun for all of us, as well as encourage the family to encourage and work together towards a common goal - fun, but most importantly good health and fitness habits.

My ultimate goal is a 106 pound weight loss; DH's is 56.  I'm keeping track of our calories and hopefully with this journal we'll be able to meet the goals we've set before us!

 Starting Points:

  • Weight: 241.4
  • Arm: 16 ¼
  • Chest: 43
  • Waist:39 ½
  • Hips: 52

 Day 1: Exercise

Started off not nearly as early as I wanted to, so I didn't have the time I wanted.  I did an elliptical workout today, which is my favorite.  I was able to do 3.1 miles (5K) in 21 min.  There were so many times I wanted to stop, but I kept pushing and am so proud of myself!! One of my short-term goals is to be able to actually run a 5K.  We've walked in a few races and our times have always been just under one hour.  So to be able to do this on the elliptical in only 21 min is very exciting.  I'm hoping at some point to try it and see if I can actually jog that distance.  Not ready yet, but soon...

In the evening I did a 37 min workout using Biggest Loser Challenge for the Wii.  Counted calories and stuck to a 1500 calorie diet.  Looked up our typical diet and was absolutely floored and disgusted! No wonder we are as heavy as we are! Yuk! No more.

Total PPE (Pace family Points Earned): 4

 Day 2: Excercise

I did the elliptical again:  3.1 miles in 25 min.  It was so hard to keep up that pace!! I think I'm going to alternate fast and slow paces and see how that goes.  I also did 1.6 miles on the stationary bike in 10 min.  That is one hard seat cushion! lol

TPPE: 5

Thursday I took the day off because Friday was the Relay for Life.  Between 5 pm Friday and 6 am Saturday I walked just over 6 miles on the track.  Could have probably gone further but my foot was bothering me. :(

Unfortunately it still hurts.  I was able to get around yesterday but after sitting or being still for a bit, it really hurts.  I think it's my Achilles tendon; hopefully it's just inflammed.  Unfortunately I'm not able to do my typical workouts, so I'm trying to think about what I can do without using my legs.  I need this to get better because I'm supposed to be a counselor at camp next week!

Do you have any yoga or stretch videos? There are some on Netflix. I hope you feel better soon, mama. Aches and pains are the worst.

I think this is a great idea!  I've read in many places that doing interval training is very beneficial and helps support weightloss! Good luck with your journey :)
