New SN-not new to CM or this group, tho.
I started yet again today(well, technically yesterday, 8-7). This time I WILL stick with it. I'm 279 and 5ft3in. I've gained quite a bit of weight in the past 2.5 years and it's so hard to keep motivated. My SO likes to eat and sit on his butt after work. He deserves to sit and eat a little after work. He is the bread winner after all. And he works his butt off. But I just want some help from him!! He was a swimmer years ago, for Pete's sake! He's just lost all motivation for some reason and so have I. :(
BUT our sex life has seriously gone down hill since both of us have gotten some weight on us and I want it back! So this is my mission to get my body and sex life back.
I took our 17 month old son on a 1.5 mile walk today(he rode, of course). My little sister sent me a video of this 10 minute Victoria's Secret work-out and I'm gonna try it a few times tomorrow(anyone tried it?). I feel fantastic after the walk. So this is my mission! I won't stop until I lose the weight I wanna lose. I'll post pictures tomorrow. I'm in bed now and I don't wanna get dressed to take a picture. lol
Advice would be much appreciated! I'm not calorie counting on that MFP thing as I cook a lot of home made food and it's hard to keep track of everything I put in. I know portions and how many meals to eat a day, tho, so I think I'm good in that dept. I use whole grain pasta when we have it, lots of veggies, I drink fresh fruit smoothies in the mornings, lots of water, whole grain bread. Sweets are my problem. THAT did come from my SO. I used to not eat a lot of them at all and he has a ridiculous sweet tooth and of course there's the temptation. Grr! Anyway, I'm gonna stop babbling. Thanks for reading if you got this far. :D

I don't count calories, in general. I do it every now and then, but I find it's very stressful for me to do it regularly. However, I find it's a good check-in with myself to see if I'm really on track. I did it when I first started out, to see how many calories I was REALLY taking in, and it was a big reality check. Like you, I make everything from scratch, so I've had to enter in many of my recipes, or look for something similar.
What's worked for me is eating clean. When I was strict about it, the weight practically fell off. Now, I do allow treats in here and there, which has slowed the loss, but I can live with that. When I was strict about it, I seriously didn't even miss the sugar. The first few days I did, but after that, it was fine.
I also work out. I was 269 (I'm 5'4") when I started. I was walking and going to the gym at that point. Then I bought DVDs and started doing those at home when I couldn't get out. When I got to around 250, I started running. It wasn't fast, and it wasn't pretty, but I did it. Then I started getting back on my bike, and eventually back in the pool. I also got back into hiking, and eventually, trail running. Now I'm 160, and I'm still going. I haven't had a gym membership consistently in 1 1/2 years, so I've been on my own. Right now, trail running is my primary form of exercise, because I love it, thus, I make it happen and I stick to it. I ran 14 miles with over 2400 feet of elevation gain last Sunday! I NEVER thought that was possible before this journey.
My sex life has improved as well. I feel better, and I'm more flexible and feel sexier. DH loves the improved body (though he misses the boobs)!
Does your DH want to do this like you do? Doing it together would certainly be easier, but if he's not already on board (like my DH isn't even now), you CAN still do this. However, YOU cannot motivate him. Focus on your and getting your whole family healthy- be a good example for that son of yours! I know my son is part of my motivation. My goal for him is to keep him from EVER struggling with his weight. Healthy habits need to start now.
You husband DOES deserve to be able to relax in the evenings- so what about a workout in the mornings? I know I'm exhausted after working all day (I'm the breadwinner in our family), so I basically HAVE to work out in the mornings, or it won't happen. That said, when I get home, it's not vegging on the couch, it's making dinner, doing dishes, helping get my son ready for bed, etc. We get time together as a family. I'm hoping to make an evening walk part of our routine, because DH really does need it (he has a dislocated back, and even his doctor keeps saying so).
I hope this gives you some ideas, and that you know you're not alone. You're very much where I was when I started (my son was 18 months old, actually!). You can do this! Keep yourself motivated, don't rely on anyone else to keep you going, and get healthy!! Good luck!
