Recently divorced in April and now I'm ready to shed my weight. In Oct.2011 I weighed 286 now I am down to 268 but I would like to get to between 160-180. Ideally like 145 but I may be dreaming. I am 5'7
I'd say start by counting calories and simple exercises, like walking. Myfitnesspal.com has been great for me so far with staying on track.
As for your goal, 145 would be fine on a 5'7" body. My personal goal is 120-125 for myself and I'm an inch taller. But if I hit 145 I'd be happy too

I agree with Mary that tracking is a very effective and efficient method of weight loss. A lot of us use myfitnesspal.com.
you are NOT dreaming to be 145lbs. it will just take hard work, determination and discipline. eat clean, exercise regularly (cardio) and incorporate weights. exercise at least 5x/week for now. you can scale back on exercise during maintenance mode but i always suggest to people to start working out at least 5x/week to get used to it/develop it into a habit. once you start seeing progress, working out is addictive :)
eating clean is very very important though; more important than exericse, IMO.
