Welcome to Day 28 of the October Weight Loss Challenge.

Do you stretch before and or after a workout?

Do you use stretching as a form of exercise?

Do you stretch even if you are not working out (ie for healthy & wellness)?


Adding a stretching regimen to your fitness routine can help you to gain flexibility.

The benefits of stretching include:

  • Can increase your range of motion over time
  • Decreases the chance of injury during a workout or physical activity
  • Stretching twice a week will keep your muscles from stiffening and shortening over time
  • Stretching muscles and tendons improves circulation of water and nutrients throughout the body, slowing the aging process
  • Lengthens muscles leading to better posture

Ten basic stretches are:

  • Calf stretch
  • Hamstring stretch
  • Quadriceps stretch
  • Hip flexor stretch
  • Iliotibial band (ITB) stretch
  • Knee-to-chest stretch
  • Shoulder stretch
  • Shoulder stretch with towel
  • Neck stretch
  • Upper back stretch

I don't often stretch before, but I sometimes will stretch after a workout. Depends on what my muscles need.

I'm not big on stretching. I'll stretch if it's part of whatever I'm doing (p90x has stretching built in, as does my Zumba class) but if the stretch isn't figured in for me then I don't really bother

Yes I do stretch.... I hurt if I don't otherwise...

It depends on my workout. I do more ballistic stretching than static.

I stretch after exercise when the muscles are warm.

Sometimes before. Sometimes after. Sometimes just because I feel like I need a good stretch even if I am not working out.

oh man. I hate stretching it hurts so much LOL. i try to do just stretching as a relax or after my work out.  i swear i will never touch my toes my back dosnt bend like that!

I should be stretching more.  I always do dynamic stretches before I work out/run, but I'm not good about stretching after runs.  I do stretch after I strength train.  I very rarely stretch if I'm not working out.
