I have roughly 125lbs to lose. Currently in 5ft 6in and 279 pounds. I'm 19 years old, 20 in february. I've tried dieting, cutting out processed foods, exercise... I can't seem to drop any weight. I had my daughter August 27th 2012. I gained 68 pounds with her. Before I got pregnant I was 234 and I was 302 the day I had her. I've always had a problem losing weight.
This is what I need a little help with. I have a doctors appointment in a week. I want to bring up my weight loss struggles with him but I don't know where to start or what to ask. I've always been embarrased when it came to talking about my weight.. especially with doctors (I used to have a crap doctor who rode me to lose weight but never offered help and had a disapproving attitude when I came in weighing more and more.) So what do I ask? Where do I begin with him? I want to lose weight. I need to lose weight... I just don't know what I need to do with the doctor. Can someone please help me? I'm beyond desperate /:
ask him to refer you to a nutritionist. the nutritionist can help you with the diet aspect of losing weight. a lot of times, they know more than we do about food/nutrition and can give great advice!
Great advice! Welcome to the group mama!

Welcome! Be honest with your doctor. Tell him/her that you know you need to lose weight and you are going to work on it. I would suggest you ask them to run labs...like thyroid, A1C, CBC check your vitamin D and cholesterol that will give you a starting point and then ask if you can come back in 3-6 months to have them re checked. Asking for a nutritionist is a good idea also. If your doctor offers you medication, find another! Good luck!
I am so on the fence with asking advice from physicians about weight loss. The majority of them are very quick to prescribe pills/fads.
What exactly have you tried? Can you be specific? Count calories? What did you eat ( specifics if possible)? How much water did you drink? What kind of exercise? How long? How often?
How long did you try these things?
Asking for initial tests will help you know if there is a medical issue at play here.
You CAN do this!

I TOTALLY agree with Tasha!!
A1C is a diabetes measurement of your blood glucose over the past 8-12 weeks. A CBC stands for complete blood count, so it measures your blood cells, both quantity and quantity. It can help you determine whether you're anemic.
A nutritionist is the best way to go for sure. Your doctor can refer you. Hopefully this doctor will have a better approach than the last one!! People need SUPPORT, not disapproval.
I was 269 lbs when I started my journey, so I can relate to where you're starting from. I'm in the 160s right now, and plan to eventually get down to 134 (once I finish nursing school).
I have a few journals that might help guide you (if you haven't already read them from another thread):
You can do this!

Talk about seeing nutrition specialist also ask your doctor about a safe weight loss pill called Adipex. You can't buy this pill over the counter, it's safe. I have heard great results from it. When I go back to my doctor sometime this month or next month I am going to ask for it to help.
