Groceries, Paleo Style (PIOG)
Did grocery shopping today at Sav A Lot.
Bought russet potatoes, sweet potatoes, and yellow onions
5 lbs ground beef, 3 lbs skirt steak (marked down a dollar per package), 1.5 lbs beef liver, beef feet (for stock and geletin), marrow bones
1 lb chicken hearts/gizzards, 1 lb chicken feet (for adding to stock), 10 lbs chicken leg quarters
1 lb turkey gizzards, 8 lbs turkey wings (50% off), 2.5 lbs ground turkey
That's enough meat for a solid month, particularly if we eat most of it in soups, stews, and pies, as is my plan.
I have a pantry and freezer full of fruit and vegetable so this time of year, I buy virtually no produce apart from tubers and bulbs (aka potatoes, onions/garlic, etc).
I live in CO Springs, CO. Prices are fairly consistent amongst all grocery stores in the area
We follow a more or less Paleo-style menu which means virtually no grain (I use a little rice once or twice a month), virtually no beans (again, maybe once or twice a month), very little dairy (I use clarified butter, a little cream and cheese), and no sweeteners at all.
Apart from looking for meats marked down and perusing the sales flyer, I don't go out of my way to save money on groceries.
