# DH's BMR

My DH wants to lose weight. Can you calculate his BMR?

6'1"
32
212 pounds.
He works out 2-3 times a week.

He'd really like to tone up. In my opinion, he looks sickly under 185, but he does have a belly that he hates. His BMI is currently in the healthy range according to the trainer at the gym.

His BMR is 2096.  He needs to never go below this number.

Working out 3-5 days/week, 2096*1.55=3248

3248-500=2748

To lose 1 pound per week, he needs to eat between 2096-2748 depending on his workouts.

BMR: 2096

2096 x 1.375 = 2882 (maintenance calories at current activity level and weight)

2882 - 500 = 2382

To lose 1-2 lbs per week, he should consume 2096-2382 calories per day.

His BMI is actually just shy of 28, which is overweight.  Ideal BMI is 20-25.

Darby, I used the 1-3 workout/week HB equation, since he's only exercising 2-3 days/week.  So I got a smaller range.

But I agree, never go below the BMR!

Suzanne did her calculations based on working out 1-3 days/week, and mine were for working out 3-5 days/week.  Just wanted to clarify that difference:)

Yeah, I just realized that!  For some reason, I thought it said 3-4 days/week...I obviously can't read!  LOL!

Haha!  I do that, too- I almost always assume I need to use the 1.55!  Then I have to read it again and go, whoops!  =)

I was looking at a different number....his body fat percentage was apparently in the "good category"
