Losing weight while breastfeeding

How many calories can I safely cut back to without losing my supply?  I know that I've replaced a lot of my snacks with things like lactation cookies (and I make sure only to eat 4 a day) and oatmeal, but I'm so afraid of running out of milk like I did with my other kids once I started eating better.

If you'd like, I can calculate out your calorie needs.  Just post your height, weight, age and how much you work out.  I'll factor in the breastfeeding and give you a calorie range that can help you lose weight without impacting your supply.

Great choice breastfeeding!  I'm a HUGE advocate! (I'm studying to be a midwife and will be a lactation consultant- right now I'm a lactation specialist)

I'm 5'4", 167 lbs, 26 years old, and I walk about 1.5 miles a day (it's all I have time for other than running around after 4 kids).

BMR: 1560 + 500 = 2060

2060 x 1.375  = 2833

2833 - 500 = 2333

To lose 1-2 lbs per week while breastfeeding, consume 2060-2333 calories per day.

We can recalculate this for you if you choose to wean or nurse part-time, if you lose 5-10 lbs, or if your activity level changes.  Just create a post with your updated info and one of us will do it for you.  =)
