Weight Loss, Fitness & Health Weight Loss, Fitness & Health
Just so frustrated lately. I keep bouncing the same 5 lbs around. I need a breakthrough. I am also frustrated that I can't get the same soreness that I got when I did workouts with my trainer lol!

Maybe I should step up the cardio for awhile? I have been more focused on strength training lately. I do love the way my arms and legs look. My stomach is still my biggest challenge.

Any advice/words/tips for me? Would love to see the 170's on my scale instead of 180-185!:)

I totally understand your pain..I hate when I plateua, maybe it's muscle your gaining? Could you up your weights? more weight less reps?

throw the scale away... for real!  just focus on inches lost.   your body will naturally fluctuate between 2-5lbs DAILY so the scale is an inaccurate thing made by the devil.

btw, muscle sorness isn't an indication of your progress. if you feel the weights are too light, go heavier and lower the reps or do supersets...those always work.

I used to get Organic Valley, but the Kerrygold is better quality, not to mention the Irish Swiss Cheese from the deli is the best swiss cheese ive ever had! :)

Quoting iamcafemom83:

I shop at Publix, too:) I have seen that brand before, but never looked closely at it, thanks!

Quoting tairakittie:

I buy Kerrygold Irish butter, I shop at Publix, im not sure if they sell it anywhere else though. I'd love to find a better source for my meat, the major stores like to charge a lot for a little and Im not sure I can even trust it.

Quoting iamcafemom83:

Where do you find grass fed butter? I buy grass fed meats already, but from the grocery store. I'm working on finding a more local source:/

Quoting tairakittie:

I had been doing videos, mostly Jillian Michaels (30DS and yoga meltdown) and a couple of others, but recently started doing youtube videos instead. Pop pilates, livestrong women, Sean Viges (sp?), stuff like that. I may do legs and arms one day, or abs, or cardio, or total body, pilates, strength, yoga, etc. I've lost about 5lbs in the last month doing this. I also upped my protien and raw fruits and veggies intake, try to eat less grains (except quinoa, mostly cut back on wheat and gluten) and I have upped my healthy fats intake!! Avacado, coconut oil, grass fed butter, not draining the grease from my grass fed beef when I make it. I try not to eat too much dairy, but when I do its usually full fat, organic and grass fed. Hemp is also a great source of protien but currently kind of expensive in all forms you can buy it in. :/

Quoting iamcafemom83:

I could definitely be eatin more protein. And I will tack on more cardio. I used to run (currently my go to cardio) 3-4 times a week, I've cut it back to 1-2 times a week.

I think I need to incorporate different forms as well.....

Quoting tairakittie:

Eat a bit more protein and up the cardio or change your routine up, or just stop for a week, that usually does it for me.

I do love the sore feeling! That is good to know, though. What is a superset?

you do 3 sets of an exercise, increasing the weight while you decrease the reps with no rest in between.  this is important.

for example, if i'm doing shoulder presses in a superset, i will do the following one right after the other with no rest:

  • 15reps with 12lbs,
  • 12 reps with 15lbs
  • 8 reps with 22lbs.

sometimes in place of a superset, i do a dropset; so i'm squeezing in a 4th set; again, no rest in between:

  • 15reps with 12lbs,
  • 12 reps with 15lbs
  • 8 reps with 22lbs
  • 8 reps with 15lbs

The scale has moved in my favor!:)
Thanks for all the advice. I tried just about it all.

I went back and did a better job of logging my meals. I came back to basics with my eating. Pretty boring, but i like the results:) I've cut out coffee. And my weekly glass or two of wine.
I got back on too of my water.
I also upped my cardio. Still doing my weights, I love my weight lifting:)
I also really watched any sugar--including honey that I ate. Same with salt.

Sorry for the sideways pic. It says 177.3!!
Eeek! This puts me 12 lbs away from my goal weight of 165. Whoa.

Ah! One of the trainers I had did this. I need to get back to this. I really liked it. Thank you:) I've never done a drop set. I want to try that!

What kind of workouts are you doing?

I don't really have a super scheduled workout but I aim for: spin classes 1-3 times a week; yoga twice a week; running 1-2 times a week; weight lifting 2-4 times a week; swimming once a week. Each week is different. I'm thinking about checking out a kickboxing class soon.
Before I joined the gym, I did lots of running and videos from YouTube.
