subsitutions in a cake mix queston

Okay, I was looking on the back of a box of devils food cake mix. The calories before it is prepared said 160 and after it was prepared said 470. Now, is this because of using eggs and oil as ingredients? What If I used olive oil, which is good for you. Or what could I replace the eggs and oil with to make it have less calories? I know unsweetened applesauce can be used for the oil, but what about the eggs? Or should I ditch this idea to begin with?

Personally, I'd sub coconut oil for the vegetable oil and keep the eggs in it.

keep the eggs- and use applesauce

refigure it- using those items, there might be a lighter recipe suggestion on there too

Instead of the oil and eggs, use a can of diet soda.  You can add an egg white or 2 to help fluffen it up.

This is the best way to cut the calories.

Make a cake from scratch instead, there are so many preservatives and so much sugar in the mix it doesn't matter what you sub, it still sucks.

You can also just use 1 can of pumpkin with chocolate cake mix...nothing else....just mix the pumpkin and cake mix until thoroughly blended and bake as usual. Comes out moist and very delicious....no oil, eggs, and such:)

Why make a cake if you are avoiding calories?

Why not find a way to make it with LESS calories so she can still have some?!

A whole cake? Does she toss the rest?

If other people will eat a diet cake. Nobody here would and the entire cake would be mine!
