Welcome to Day 5 of the Get Fit Challenge!

Flexibility training and stretching are as important to fitness as cardio and strength training.

Flexibility exercises are designed to keep muscles, tendons and joints flexible and improve all over range of motion.

The benefits & importance of flexibility training and stretching include:

  • Decreased chance of serious injury
  • Improved performance
  • Improved posture
  • Reduced risk of lower back pain
  • Improved muscle coordination
  • Increased blood flow and nutrients to the tissue
  • Stress relief
  • Enhanced enjoyment of physical activities
  • Improved sex life

Pilates, Yoga and stretching are all forms of flexibility training. One of the easiest ways to work on your flexibility is by stretching.

I am familiar with flexibility training, and its very important to my workouts, I am getting better about streching before and after my workouts but still working on it.. 

I attempt yoga here and there...

Yoga is my favorite thing to do. Plus my toddler bugs me every day to do it with her. She loves stretching out on the mat and it's great mommy daughter time

I never knew the name for it, but this is definitely an area I need to work on.

I do a lot of flexibility workouts. Right now they are the workouts that are easiest for me. I usually do uoga but I have also done some Pilates. I stretch after every workout and every couple of days I do a yoga video to get a full whole body stretch in.

 I stretch daily and I do yoga and pilates. Right now, it's yoga.

I try to stretch after running but don't always get the chance. I really need to do it more!

I don't do much stretching. I should, but I just don't seem to find the time.
