New Year, New You Weight Loss Challenge Day 1: Set SMART Goals

Welcome to Day 1 of the New Year, New You Weight Loss Challenge!

What are your weight loss, fitness and/or health goals for 2014?

The best way to be successful with your goals is to set goals that you CAN achieve. You can achieve your goals if you make SMART goals. SMART goals are:

S - Specific
M -Measurable
A - Attainable
R - Realistic
T - Time Based.

If your goal is to lose weight. Great! But break down that goal with the SMART method. For instance, if you want to lose 30 lbs, set/write your goal similar to this: "I want to lose 30 pounds total in 2014. To do that, I will focus on losing 2 - 3 pounds a month with clean eating and exercise". By setting the above goal, instead of just "I want to lose weight", you have just set a specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time based goal. It is the same goal, but now you know what you need to do and how you are going to do it to be successful. Two to three pounds a month seems much more attainable than the daunting number of 30 lbs in a year.

Tip: Use a journal to keep track of your goals. As the year goes on, you will not only be able to physically see your results, but you will be able to go back and look at where you began and know how far you have come!

OKay.. I need to make some goals. Small goals to get started this year...

S - I want to lose 5lbs by Feb 1st
M - Weight myself today...1/6 and again on 1/31
A - Start crossfit, workout at home
R - 5lbs is small enough to be realistic
T - Little less than 4 weeks

I need to stop thinking that I need to do these BIG, HARD workouts in order to see results. If I just took time to take a walk everyday I know that would see at least some health benefits!

I need to start counting calories. Over the holiday season I indulged...not in my main meals...but in all those things that sneak up on you.. alcohol, snacks, chocolate.. lol  Time for me to keep a FOOD JOURNAL. lol

What are your goals, OP?

I'd like to lose 5 lbs a month...so a total of 60 lbs for the year. My goal is also to stick with my hip hop abs & Les Mills Combat program. Im also on MFP so I want to stay right under my calories. In summer I would like to do some type of 5k such as the Zombie run, Color me Rad or Mudd Run.

My initial goal is to use the support that is avaliable to me through this web site.  That will help to obtain a healthy weight loss.

S - I want to lose 20 pounds by April 1st
M -I need to lose 7 pounds a month
A - Zumba and wii fit and lots of walking!
R - I think 20 pounds in 3 months is good...
T - 3 months!! : )

I want to lose 10 pounds this month, drink a lot of water and keep moving my body.

I want to lose 70 lbs by Christmas. I started weight watchers on Jan 2 and will stick with the program. Lose 1-2 lbs/week. Also exercising for a minimum of 20 minutes a day by doing various workout videos, wii workouts, walking and running. I want to run a 5k in under 30 minutes on Thanksgiving day.

1)Specific

Finding a specific diet to follow.

I am using Spark people.com and Atkins.

2)Measurable

Making sure I divide my plate,mostly vegetables,deck sized meat

Also use stepometer daily 10,000 steps

Try to get in 6 glasses water daily.

3)Attainable

Taking baby steps.Shooting for 5 pounds goal at a time.Focusing on 1 to 2 pounds a week.

4)Realistc

My thoughts.I am not going to lose 20 in a month.

5)Time Based

Giving myself attainable doable goals and dates to accomplish.This will keep me motivated.

S-I want to lose 30 lbs by july 1st. (My bday)
M-weigh myself every week.
A-work out at home. Walk. Dance.
R-5-6lbs a month is reasonable
T-7 months to reach my goal

My current goal is get back to tracking my food and working regularly again.

I would like to start out by losing 60lbs this year.
I've gotten myself a workout buddy.
No more eating after 8pm.
Ive signed up to a website to help me track my calorie intake.
DRINK MORE WATER!!!!
