Activity Monitors

I'm looking at activity monitors and I'm curious what other's opinions on them are. Are they worth it? Do they keep you motivated? And then of course, which one do you use and recommend/likes & dislikes, etc.

I think I've ruled out Bodybugg (even though it's tempting since I can find them on ebay for around $30) because it doesn't have a mobile app, you have to use a PC which would make it less convenient and I'd be more likely not to use it. Plus they charge a monthly fee.

The other 2 I'm looking at are pricey, but they don't have monthly fees and they are smartphone friendly. The Fitbit Flex or The Withing Pulse O2

I have a polar loop. There is a mobile app. I like it because I like having that motivation to meet my daily goal. I also like that it tracks my sleep.

I have the jawbone up24. I love it!! It even monitors my sleeping habits. I tried the fitbit, my Samsung note 3 apps and an old fashioned pedometer...my phone and jawbone were the most accurate. The fitbit I returned as I felt it over compensated my steps.

I have a heart rate monitor- wahoo blue hr. I believe they are more accurate than activity monitors that calculate calories burned based on movement- not continuous heart rate measurement. But depends what is most important to your goals. Accurate calorie burn is necessary for me as I'm on a calorie controlled diet- and I eat back a percentage of calories burned.

I use the BodyBugg. I have a digital display that I wear like a watch so that I can keep track without using my computer all the time.
