Welcome to day 13 of the Summer Weight Loss Challenge!

The best food, is the healthiest food.

In day 6, we gave you a list of food to keep on hand to encourage a healthier and cleaner diet. While all those foods are good for you, there are some that stand out more than others.

These 'superfoods' are packed with nutrients that are beneficial to weight loss as well as overall good health. If you cannot get everything on the original list from day 6, make sure your pantry does includes the following superfoods.

  • Almonds
  • Avocados
  • Bananas
  • Blueberries (3 - 4 servings per week)
  • Broccoli
  • Brown Rice
  • Garbanzo Beans (Chickpeas)
  • Grapefruit
  • Green Tea
  • Kidney Beans (3 - 4 servings per week)
  • Lentils
  • Oats
  • Oranges ( 2 - 4 servings per week)
  • Pears
  • Pine Nuts
  • Quinoa
  • Salmon (2 - 3 servings per week)
  • White Beans (3 - 4 servings per week)

How many of these superfoods do you incorporate into your diet?

Are there any foods on the list that you haven't tried?

Do you have any superfood recipes to share?

We try to keep about half of the list in our house. The others I'll have to try. Except the salmon. I don't eat any kind of fish.

Honestly, only a few.

I eat quite a few of these. Never going to eat quinoa again. blech. Can't eat grapefruit since it interferes with some meds I take. I am seeing lately that pine nuts are not recommended because some can ruin the taste buds for weeks. I don't mind avocado but am not used to cooking it. Other than these I eat all of the above but not necessarily in the quantity suggested.

Concerning oats, I read that steel cut oats have a lower glycemic index than oatmeal.

I've never tried pine nuts but we have most of these in the house. I eat most of them but only some of them on a regular basis.

I have quite a few. I'm also allergic to a handful of those. I make my own hummus. That has been my favorite thing lately.

I  eat several of the foods in your list, but I haven't tried quinoa.
