Breakfast: Carnation Instant Breakfast (made with skim milk)
Mid-Morning Snack: 100 calorie chewy granola bar
Lunch: Smoothie (made with half fresh banana, 5-6 frozen strawberries and 1/2 cup orange juice)
Mid-Afternoon Snack: Half/whole fresh apple or handful of grapes
Dinner: Grilled or baked chicken breast (made with seasoning blend and olive oil), small salad (with a few croutons and light italian dressing) and a small serving of oven roasted potatoes
Does this seem like too much or too little? Any advice would be awesome!
Honestly, I think you are eating too little calories. I would do either lunch or breakfast as a liquid drink, but not both. You don't have many veggies in either or whole grains. Try egg whites, whole wheat toast, and turkey bacon for breakfast. Or a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread loaded with veggies for lunch.
Definatley not a good balanced diet. you need more protein added in, whole grains and vegetables. I dont agree with just a drink for breakfast, breakfast is what replenishes your body after a long night, you actually need more calories then than at lunch. sparkpeople.com is an excellent free weightloss site that if you put your height and weight in it will generalte your coloric/fat/protein needs for a day.
Looks like you have my problem. I want mostly fruit. Im not a fan of whole grain anything.. for that matter I hate ANY sort of flour product. Bread.. pastas.. YUCK. And veggies.. Raw is great, but gets old and is rather bland. I LOVE smoothies. But I know when I tried that very diet you are on, I lost a bunch of weight, then got "stuck" in limbo. And gained it back. I got frustrated not losing anymore as well as mean and exhausted from lack of a healthy diet.
you are getting almost all carbs and sugar. You need a protein at each meal. For istance add egg whites to your breakfast. Granola is high in sugar. Have fresh berries and low fat cottage cheese. Smoothies can be loaded in sugar. Plus not very filling for lunch. How about a big leafy green grilled chicken salad and some fresh friu. Another good snack is an apple and peanut butter.
You can look at my food journal here and get some ideas. I think you need more cals. But definantley get the protein up. It keeps you full and helps you make body changes. I would also go with whey protein instead of the carnation. You can get a tub of it at walmart for 15 bucks. Body Fortress. It lasts a long time.
