Now that the announcement has been made that she's officially divorcing Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes has already moved into a brand new apartment in New York City with her daughter, Suri,
to try and distance herself from her soon-to-be-ex as much as possible.
(Can you blame her? It's amazing she stayed as long as she did.)
And she didn't waste any time in getting out of the apartment she shared with Tom, because it's even being reported that Katie rented her new pad a few days before the divorce papers were filed. (Smart gal.)
When she picked out her new home, it's obvious that Suri was her number one priority, because she chose a location close to all of the places they like to go together, including Suri's gymnastics studio.
While Katie must feel like she's just broken out of jail and is no doubt thrilled to start fresh in her new home with Suri, it does sound like they've taken a bit of a downgrade in the lifestyle department. The new apartment has three bedrooms, and is estimated to cost somewhere between $10,000 and $12,000 per month.
By New York rent standards, that price really doesn't seem too terribly expensive for an A-list star like Katie. It's likely a very nice place that's definitely on the swanky side, but considering how ultra-luxurious the homes she shared with Cruise were, this new apartment is still a bit of a step down.
But honestly, Katie is probably so relieved to have some normalcy back in her life that I doubt she's worried about living in a place that's a little less Hollywood. If I had to guess, I'd say that's exactly what she was going for when she signed the lease.

I agree with this..I don't think she's some helpless, manipulated victim..I think she's smart & calculating..She may have known from day one how this was going to end..Anyway, about them moving- i view it the same as any other women divorcing- it's time to move on...
