We got it for our wedding in April 2010, so it's not that old... it was the huge set that goes on sale for 649 sometimes.... so it's not easily replaceable. DH is military, and I visit back "home" with the kids once or twice a year since he usually can't take leave. This past time I was gone for a month and he had a friend staying with him, and the bottom of some of my pots/ pans are silver now. I'm assuming dishwahser/ improper washing. They look terrible. If I need to provide a pic I can. Is there any way to salvage them or am I just screwed til we can get more??

My understanding is that Calphalon is a really high end brand of teflon coated cookware.
They could have been using metal spatulas while cooking. My friend's mom always scrambled her eggs with a fork and she messed up her teflon pans.
Quoting mrsdic:we dont even have them in the house. is teflon the same thing?
Quoting CDMelty:I wash my teflon coated pans in the dishwasher all the time and the coating stays on. I imagine they washed them with SOS pads or scour pads to scratch the coating off.
It's on the outside, like the bottoms and somewhat up the sides. And oh man - I can't imagine! (the fork thing)

Cooking at a high heat and suddenly immersing in cold water can also ruin the pan.
Teflon and anodized cookware are two different things. Teflon is coating that is put on and anodized is a process that it is put through using aluminum. They are two very different finishes and Calphlon makes them both, along with stainless steel pots and pans.

Well, things stick to it a bit....but nothing that I've ever been bothered by. In the pots and stuff it is nice becauce when you brown meat, then you have those stuck on brown bits that you can "deglaze" and make great sauces/gravies with. With the stainless you cannot use oil spray at all- it apparently has other stuff in it that causes gunk to form on the pans. You can only use oil and butter. I really only use the frying pan for crepes because I use my cast iron frying pan for almost everything (it is very non-stick if you season it right) and I have a small teflon pan omlet pan we use for eggs. The first crepe might stick a little, but I just use some oil and after a few crepes it is good to go and I barely need any oil after a few. I've had the set for 10 years and other than breaking one of my lids (I dropped it and can't find a way to just buy a lid) I've had no problems. My MIL loves her non-stick stuff, but she got the same set for my BIL and theirs warped after just a couple of years.
Quoting mrsdic:Curious, how does the stainless steel set work? I love mine.... cooks wonderfully, nothing sticks, etc. I worry about stainless steel stuff....
Quoting christinab313:Wish I could help! I have Calphelon, but it is the stainless steel set. Usually a bit of Barkeepers Friend solves any of my problems, but I am guessing your problem was that the coating was removed, not that you have to clean off burns etc. My MIL has the same set as you but I can't reach her for a few days.
