My son is active in sports and now is in football 3+ days a week until 7:30-8pm with our busy schedules dinner time is imposible for my husband so i quickly get home and make dinner. My husband went from working 40+ hours a week (hardly ever being home on the weekdays) to 0! he doesnt know the first thing about making dinners/bathtime/ or even bedtime! starting in a few weeks i will have a 3rd grader and a pree-schooler & our way of living this summer will be unexceptable... If you had a schedule you stuck to, write it out and give it to him. When I first became a stay at home mom I was so overwhelmed once I made a schedule for housework, errands, menu planning and mommy chauffeur it went a lot smoother. Once he knows what you did, he can start by writingin when he has to drive to practices and games and school, then errands, then when he has time to cook and clean. Once you schedule it, time doesn't get away from you so easily. Also, cook or prepare food to be cooked when the kids aren't home, then you just cook it when its time I.e. chop veggies and season a whole chicken or roast and put in the fridge, then an hour or so before hand put it in. Slow cooker too as others have said.
