Have you thought  about where your parent will live when they get older?

with you/family, live independently, nursing home.

My dad passed away in Aug. '09

My mother can move in with one of her two daughters or live in a home, for all I care.  I won't take care of her.

I am not sure. I don't think it would be goodfor her to live with me but if that's what had to happen I guess we would do it.As for my dad not sure either. Neither of them have thought about this.

Yup in a nursing home when they can no longer care for themselves.

I would gladly have my father stay with me. It is our responsibility to care for them if at all possible.  My mom is already deceased.  But my father will NOT move in with any of us.  We have all offered but he said he was born in that town and he wants to die there.  He said he will go to the nursing home when he can no longer stay alone.  It breaks my heart but if that is what he truly wants then we will honor it.  He is 87 and still lives alone right now. He has a lady that comes in 5 mornings a week to cook and clean for him.

Every.  Single.  Day.

It's a reality that I'm currently dealing with.  Right now I live 3 houses down.  But my grandmother (mom) is getting worse and worse.  The hospital (she's in the hospital right now) is trying to force us to put her in a nursing home.  We cannot afford it, and in all honesty if she's going to die, we want her at home with family, not in an impersonal hospital-like setting.

Then there's my aunt.  She's been handicapped since she was around 2 years old.  She cannot take care of herself.  She can do a lot of things on her own, but most things she cannot.  She refuses to go to an assisted living place, she refuses to move in with us.  So I guess I'm going to have to keep on going down there 2-3 times a day regardless.

It's very real for me.

I honestly think they'll be the type that will live together and die together in their house. Or in a cabin in the woods somewhere. Lol! They've got a ways to go though.

My dad has a nurse that goes to my parent's home everyday to care for my dad.  My mom has nursing home insurance so when she gets too old to care for herself, she'll go to a nursing home.  She already has the home picked out because she, my sister, and I went nursing home shopping for my dad a few years ago.
