The Family Workstation

By HoosierHomemade on Jul. 16, 2014 at 12:00 AM

Over the years we've lived in several houses and with them have been a variety of kitchens in both size and design. But the one constant space we have always incorporated into our kitchen is a family workstation, where all the important everyday items are kept to keep the family on track. Since the kitchen is where the family spends the majority of its time it makes sense to centralize the items you need to run it efficiently.

To get the latest design ideas to help you incorporate your workstation into your kitchen talk to the experts at The Home Depot. They are there to guide you through the process and help you make the best decisions for your unique situations. They have the answers whether you are looking to replace, reface or renew. To get the ball rolling here's a few ideas on how to incorporate a family workstation into your kitchen.

In an existing kitchen you may already have an area that serves well as your family workstation and there is no need to do a complete redesign. So why not give it a new look and update the door fronts, drawers and hardware with refacing.

Or perhaps you have an open wall just begging for that cute table you picked up at the local flea market. The experts have all the supplies you need to bring it back to all its splendor and make it work for you.

And then there's always the option to start fresh and build an area from scratch to fit the exact needs of your growing family. The Home Depot provides style and color trends to provide inspiration for your remodel with their free in-store design consultation services.

What does your family workstation need the most?

  •  We have ours in the office now, but previously it was in the kitchen. We had ours updated with new cabinet doors fronts, drawersand hardware. It made a huge difference and I love it. Everyone thought we had new cabinets installed, but our cabinets were basically sturdy and good, just outdated, I also added pull out drawers inside bottom cabinets. They did an awesome job.

  • We have an office where the kids do homework and such, but we have a big dry erase calendar on the kitchen wall for all the appointments and activities. It's the best place for it because it's right next to the door we use to go in and out of the garage. No one can say they didn't see it!

  • We have a built-in desk in the kitchen. The printer/copier is right next to it, and a mesh box on the wall for school stuff. It's command central, lol.
