Quoting Shari55:

My youngest daughter was 12 when she got a Tracfone just for going to and from school, for emergencies only. She respected this and now my mother pays for the yearly minutes for her Tracfone, she is almost 18, and it is still just for emergencies( the child doesn't like texting or talking on the phone).

At 18 she is no longer a child...and at 18 she should be paying for her own minutes and phone in my opinon,

Agreed and when she turns 18 in August she will be paying for her own things, however if her grandmother wishes to continue to pay for her minutes then she may. This is between her grandmother and her.

Shari, wife to bestfriend John (4/88), mom to Heather(1/77),Nyssa(4/89),Michaela (8/94) and four fur babies (cats)

Well my kids both got a cell phone freshman in high school now they are in college but they have always paid the bill on it. They both had a job in high school and still work and go to college.
