I took DD and her friend to the skating rink today. A lady approached me asking if it was ok for her to buy the girls skates. I asked why she'd want to do that? I didn't know her. She said that she and her sister used to skate there when they were kids and her sister died when she was a teen. Every year on the anniversary of her sister's death, she buys two sisters a new pair of skates to honor her. I told her they're friends, not sisters. She said close enough and we took the girls to pick their new skates out.
This is the 2nd act of kindness in 6 months that dd has been on the receiving end of. Totally unexpected both times. Have you or your kids ever have anything like that happen?
*ETA* I picked the skates up last night. They were having a private party and we didn't have time to try them on and skate at the rink anyway, but here's what the skates looked like in the box and my daughter in our kitchen with hers on.

Quoting Livinwith3boys:No, but I love doing it!! My question to you, is how are you paying these random acts of kindness forward????
Volunteer somewhere, I see your DH is military, maybe ACS has some good opportunities to help out...or maybe offer a free night of childcare to a couple whom you know needs the break..Or take dinner to a sick friend...Offer a ride to someone without a car...Maybe someone new to the area could use a tour of post??

That's the thing. The skates were $150/pair. I can't do that. I talked to DD about paying it forward and I'm hoping to come up with a good idea or an opportunity will present itself. I'm willing/able to spend time more so than money. Any suggestions?

When DD was 3, she and I were at a grocery store. I had only brought a 20 with me and had gone over and was so embarassed when had to ask the cashier to take a few things off. I was kinda upset and a little teary eyed as I loaded my couple of bags into the car, when I looked up and this young couple handed me my "unbought" groceries and a baby doll for DD. I was so thankful and told them over and over again "they did not have to do this" but they assured me it was their pleasure.
DD still has that baby doll and it's very taken care of and it reminds the two of us where we have been, where we are and where we hope to be. Also, helps to remind us to always pay it forward whenever we can.
