Not sure how to keep my kids busy this summer, need advice! PIOG
School ends on June 1st and I am absolutly terrified that my kids are going to drive me bat s*** crazy, if I don't try to provide some structure for them this summer. The thing is that they are 5 yrs apart and a boy and a girl, so they have absolutly nothing in common and most of the time the two of them irritate each other which in turn irritates me. Another problem I am forseeing is that on May 8th I got into a car accident and only had basic insurance so I didn't get any money so that I could get a replacement vehicle and currently I have a busted up Dodge Grand Caravan in my driveway that is pretty much only good for parts bc we bought it cheap from a car auction 6 yrs ago. We don't have good credit so my husband and I were forced to ask my parents for help, they are giving us a loan which we are planning on paying back but the check won't be sent til after June 1st bc they had to shuffle around some money. My bil is going to the auctions sometime tomorrow so hopefully he will find something we can afford with the loan sooner rather than later. I live out in the middle of nowhere in a small town with nothing to do normally and am outside of town so I am not even within walking distance of anything that might occupy the kids and get them out of the house. I don't want to sign them up for summer programs bc of the problem of not having a vehicle, the only transportation we have now is my husband's truck and since it only seats 2 people it is not something that I can transport the kids in and drive him to work. I really hope that we get a replacement vehicle soon but it could be another month or so before we get it. So I was wondering if any of you had suggestions on what I could do with the kids at home so that they aren't just playing video games or watching tv all day long. I live in southwestern az so the summer months get really hot out here. We don't have a pool in the backyard so they really can't play outside. My husband and I were going to come up with some kind of structured schedule for the kids this summer, I think I will include things like chores, arts and crafts, reading, and maybe some learning time so that they don't forget what they've learned over the summer but I need ideas on what to do with a 6 yr old girl and an 11 yr old boy. Thank you so much for your help!
