So we went camping with my sons Cub Scout pack this weekend. They have a tradition that they do a Flag Retirement Ceremony every October at the Family Campout. We have never been to one. Well what an amazing experience to be a part of. It was beautiful and heartwarming. The color Guard and the ceremony was so powerful. We all got to participate. They take the flag apart and everyone got to throw a color in. The blue foelds you kiss before they are placed into the fire. After the fire is out they collect the ashes and bury them close to our group campsite. I am so blessed to have been a part of this ceremony.

I've been part of a few, it always deeply moved me. one year at the end of girl scout camp we retired the camp flag and i got to be a pay of that, and then the next day i got to accept a new flag for our council. it had been flown at the Texas state capital building. that was an awesome experience too.
