We played in the street all the time, walked to the store without our parents, knew how to work the VCR, played Atari AND Nintendo,  watched all those cartoons, lived without cellphones and all those other things but I did ALWAYS wear a seatbelt. Didn't see a reason not to. They made you safer and most cars after the 60's had them :)
