We are getting things all set for my daughter to leave in just a few short weeks. I can't beleive that the time is getting so close for her to start her new journey. My husband will be going to her graduation. I will not get to go as we have another child in school and I can't fly. If anyone can tell me about how much the video costs I would appreciate it and is it worth the money for it.? Do you actually get to see your child in the video?
I ask for many prayers as this time grows closer!

it was a year and a half ago when i attended my daughter's graduation. Then the DVD was 50.00 and it takes about 4 weeks to get it. They tell you that EVERY Airman in the graduation is on the video. I can't speak for anyone else, but my daughter was on her's. It is well worth the money. Good luck yo your daughter. I hope it works out that there is some way you can go to her graduation. It will be the proudest moment in your life thus far.Thank you to your daughter for her service. Sharen
I remember my husband's DVD only costing about $10. ??? maybe I'm thinking of the wrong DVD.... and my husband was only in it for a second or two the whole time. I think it's worth the money though, even if it is $50. It's great to have that keepsake.
Good Morning Darinda,
I have some information that may be helpful. First of all your graduate will have the opportunity to order (in advance of graduation) a photo package that will include multi sizes of pictures, the squadron picture and a yearbook for around $68.00. The AF has one supplier for it's photos and you can go to http://www.basicvideoproductons.com/ to look at options before her graduation. At one time the website was not working and you had to call to order (210) 695-4979( this was for additional photos for family). There are two DVDs, the Graduation DVD that has the coin ceremony, the Airman's run and the graduation, it is $50.00. The Basic Training DVD will highlight your daughter's experience in basic training with her squadron. It takes a full six weeks, or more, from the date of graduation before that is relased. My son graduated in Sept. and the company is back logged so it will be mid November before it arrives. Ask you daughter to order hers when the packet is ordered. The packet is picked up and paid for at graduation (of course I paid my son did not). I was surprised at the number of times my son was in the yearbook. Even if your daughter is viewed just for seconds in the video you will experience the excitement and reverence of the whole experience and it will remain a great memento of her basic training experience. Best wishes to your daughter. The all female flights rock!

I think it is definitely worth paying for the video. We got the both of them and have watched them over and over. You will love it. If you have a personal video camera have your husband take it and video her.
My duaghter went in the day before thanksgiving last year so I know how you feel . You are really going to miss her over the holidays, but we'll help you through it. There are some great mom's on this site and it's a wonderful support group.
Wish your daughter all the luck in the world and tell her many prayers are being said for her. She will do awesome!

Good luck to you as you get ready for your daughter's departure.
I would highly recomend that you soak up your time with her! Plan on writing to her on a daily basis - include some motivational quotes, lyrics to some motivating songs, pictures of the family and friends, and positive news. Leave out any news that may cause her any kind of stress...there will be enough time to update her on that stuff after Graduation.
My daughter is at Basic right now and will be graduating on 11/20/09. She called last night to say they had gotten Excellence at Beast week which considering she had a pinched nerve in her back and had to carry more than 30 lbs, we were very proud of her!!!
The first week is the hardest on Mom...it's hard to go cold turkey on no communication with her. I have been blessed because my daughter has written a few letters each week. They can only mail them on Sunday for the first 5 weeks so we'd get one envelope on Thursdays with a few letters in them. We've gotten about 4 phone calls from her which has been wonderful.
My daughter has been open and honest about the tough times but her letters have also been very entertaining. She said the hardest part of Basic was learning to live with and deal with ALL the DRAMA that is created in the female flights!!! About 50 women sharing close quarters was an interesting challenge to someone who has always had her own room! But they learned to pull together and work as a team and that is one of the biggest goals of Basic.
Good luck and hang in there and feel free to holler. We're here to support each other!
