Bring new toys and snacks. A Portable DVD player with her favorite show if you can.

Good luck!  I've never flown either i'm terrified of planes!  I'm sure you'll be fine though.  We just did a 12 hour car trip with my 21 month old.  We went to the dollar store before we left and bought lots of little toys and activities to pull out one by one.  She loved playing with stickers and sticking them in a little note pad.  Snacks also do wonders to keep her occupied on long trips.

I agree with all the other moms about getting a new toy and letting her have it on the plane. Also, try hiding her favorite toy now, and then give it back to her on the plane. Another thing we tried was giving her "forbidden" items. After taking out any batteries and thoroughly cleaning them, we gave her our keys and a remote control for her to play with. Things that she knows she can't have at home.

Books, coloring books, and snacks for sure.

I'm guessing the flight is around 2 hours or so? Maybe less? So it may not be enough time for a movie if you want her to watch something, but if you have a portable dvd player or an ipod - you can get shows like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for her to watch, and that way they're short enough that she'll be able to watch the whole thing, even with the take off & landing not allowing electronics :)

And one important thing to remember is that you got this. I know how scary it can be, especially the first time. I think we've all been on flights before where the child just screams uncontrollably the whole time, and it scares us into believing that's what it's going to be like. But it's not. And even if she does get upset for whatever reason, screw everyone else. Just deal with it the best you can and who cares what anyone else thinks?!

Totally agree! Just take some deep breaths and it will get easier as you go along. My first time ever flying was in a helicopter over myrtle beach. Talk about scary! But after a few minutes of being up their I was fine & ever since then I have had no problems...

We've flown a few times with DD now, her first time she was about 15 months.

I agree with the others, bring her fav toys, books and snacks. Maybe a coloring book and some crayons. What works best for us, though is a movie, whether you have a dvd player, a laptop or your smart phone or ipod, a movie usually works best.

Get to the airport with plenty of time before you have to board because you'll want to visit the restroom before takeoff. I've had to change my DD in the plane a couple times and it's not fun or easy--so far I've only been in one plane that had a changing table.

You can bring your stroller if you think it'd be easier and you just leave it at the entrance of the plane and  it'll be waiting for you when you get off the plane.

Also remember, baby might freak out. It might be stressful, but try to stay calm. Getting frazzled will make baby more frazzled, too. Talk to baby a lot, point out the neat things going on outside the plane window. Don't be embarassed if she cries, just try to keep your cool :)
