Does anyone know when it's time to start stage two food?

We just followed my sons lead didn't really follow set age limits. Stage two is mainly just mixed purée foods and maybe a little thicker texture.

Ok. But do they need teeth?

They use their gums to mash up food.  My 7.5 month old eats just about anything and prefers solids/chunks to purees.  He likes to feed himself.  He has the 2 bottom teeth and is cutting the 4 top teeth (3 have cut through), but no back teeth.  Just make sure food is soft and the pieces are small.

We also never used jarred baby food, just real food that was pureed/cut up small.

No, they don't need teeth. The texture is just a little thicker.

Once baby is good at swallowing stage one it's fine to move onto stage two.

I agree with the others, once baby is good at swallowing stage 1 foods, it's fine to move on to stage 2. Good luck!
