Twelve Month Transitions

Turning one is a big deal. Like a really big deal. You've gotten through the first 12 months of parenthood unscathed (for the most part) and your little one is quickly becoming not so little.

But with your child's first birthday comes many transitions. One of the biggest one for me was moving from formula/breast milk to regular cows milk. I know that most people will slowly transition or choose to breast feed longer, but for us the timing was right.  And if you're not choosing cow's milk it might be almond, coconut or soymilk instead. But whatever the chase, the change is a big one.

Even then, I was filled with so many different emotions knowing that my baby was becoming a full-fledged toddler. Where did the time go?

Moms, what was the biggest change that happened when your child turned one?

This will be an interesting post to follow.  LO will be a year in 2 days.

Big transitions we have seen in the last month include:

ditching bottles in favor of straw cups

going for taking steps to full fledged walking

talking a lot more (but still only 3 real words--mama, dah-dee and nana (banana))

more independent--he knows what he wants and communicates to get it.

clingier--he wants to be held and carried a lot more

Walking was the biggest thing for us. She really took off, and hasn't slowed down since!

Finding out DS had a lactose allergy after switching formula twice: he was on Similac Alimentum from 6mos to 1 year.

Switching from bottles to sippies was another big one for us. Plus the transition from crawling to walking.

She just turned one. We are trying to wean off the bottle (she still gets 3 a day) but she isn't so interested in the sippy. Some days more than others.

Switching to whole milk, she is having bm issues :(

Realizing she isn't a baby anymore. She is a very independent, strong headed, mind of her own "big" girl.

I cried when my first son turned 1.  Bittersweet.  I don't think there were any difficult transitions when they turned 1.  I didn't give them any milk until they were around 2 and at that time I mixed it with pediasure to give it some fiber and flavor.

Walking and no more bottles. I still pumped and nursed a lot less!
