Do they taste like bananas? I keep seeing them at the store and want to try them. What do you serve with them? Thanks. :)

I've actually never tried them either.

They're usually fried or sauteed. U can sweeten them up and they taste more like a sweet potato, to me. U can make them more salty too. Like sweet potato fries.

ETA. I've only ever had them with Mexican meals (or actually Cuban). Like as a base instead of chips and pile it with beef, beans, chicken, nacho stuff.

Good to know.  I usually pass them up because they look like overripe bananas to me and I like my bananas green at the top.

In Dominican Republic they use a lot of plantains, my mom makes this plate called Mangu it's sooo yummy!!, you have to peel a couple of plantains & cut them in pieces then boil them till they are soft, you drain some of the water out & you mash the plantains & add some butter & a little salt, then you take some onions & saute it in a little of vinegar & oil (not too much vinegar) & you top the plantains with the onions you can also pour a little of the oil you sauteed the onions with on the plantains. You can eat it with anything on the side, chicken, steak, eggs whatever you desire... It's really good!

Thank you! I've always heard to pan fry them. I've never heard to boil them. I'll probably try doing this, I like salty stuff more than sweet favors. You're awesome! :)

I have only had them fried and topped with salsa, so I'm not sure.
