What odd things have awaken you in the middle of the night?
Our cat meowing at our door at 3 a.m. this morning, just because he wanted to visit.
Phantom phone calls (I hear them in my sleep but no one actually called)
The odd ball rooster who thinks it's morning sometime between mid-night and 3. :| It's always the young ones that squeak when they crow.

I had a phantom door bell ring one night.
LOL That reminds me of one night several years ago we were awakened by our doorbell ringing at 2 a.m....for real! It was our CAT! Our house siding was brick on the lower half and wood on the top, with a small ledge on the top of the brick...just the perfect height for her to perch on and ring the doorbell.

LOL! When I was a kid, we lived out in the country, next to my grandma, who lived by herself. One night, in the middle of the night, she awoke to someone playing her piano. She was scared at first, but then, she realized "Why would anyone break in and start playing the piano?" Then, she saw the little cat shadow come around the corner. Apparently when I left that night, the door didn't get close all of the way, so my brother's cat decided to visit in the middle of the night.
We used to have a cat that would open our bedroom door. For the longest time we thought we had just been leaving it open, then one morning I got up early and closed the door so DH could sleep in, and I saw the cat jump up several time batting at the door knob until it opened. Also our dog acted as doorman for the cat. The dog would go to the door and bark, and we'd assume he wanted out. We'd open the door, and the dog would run back into the room, and the cat would be sitting there waiting to get in.

How about the town Marshall pounding on the door at 1AM? Our previous house had a door to the outside and some people thought it was the entry door. Not sure why anyone would go around to the side of the house for the main entry, but it was during a predicted rain storm and they pounded LOUDLY on the door to tell us the creek was up. DUH! You've only been talking about it and sending notices for days. It's only been raining hard several hours all along the area that feeds the creek. We really didn't need the 1AM "news flash"!
