I said not sure, I'm sure it depends on the situation.

I think it should in some cases. I do not believe a single mother (or father) that plans on relying soley on CS and PA to support their family should be able to get custody if the other parent is able to provide for the kids on their own and is a fit parent. Of course, the exception would be cases where one parent it clearly unfit. CS is socialism at it's worst in cases where the mother is automatically favored and the father pays more then half his income to his ex to raise his kids (who he would be happy to help raise himself if he had the chance).

It feels like if you can and want to provide for your bios you DON'T get them, dispite the sanity or drugyness of the other parent

No, best interests of the child(ren) does, or at least it's supposed to work that way. But money does define who pays what kind of child support!

In Idaho in most cases the mother automatically gets custody.

It shouldn't as long as the parent can take care of and has the childs best interest in mind. I'm sure some judges do look at income though.

I think in most cases the mother usually gets custody, I know in my situation I will have sole custody of all the kids and it is not being contested

when we went to court we had to show proof of all income, but i don't think it was a "who has more money" issue that won or lost that case.  It does factor for child support tho.  We got custody of Irish's daughter because bio mom was deemed unfit.  And that was in the state of texas.....
