I know what you mean and I live in Texas. I make mine sweet but not that sweet. What they do is... they take what ever amount of sugar they like and put it in the cold water, then bring it to a boil while stirring the sugar so it disolves. Then they add the tea bags bring it to a boil again. Once that happens it goes to the back burner for a few hours or some over night. Then you would pour that into your jar and add your cold water and stir. its all done.
I do this but only add just enough sugar to tase it, bring my water to the boil with the sugar, then again with the tea. Let it sit for about 30 min. to an hour that is it. Then add my water to the tea mixture and some lemon. Its just sweet enough to enjoy and not feel like you are drinking a whole bag of sugar lol.
