My face is a bit red & my upper arms are a tad sore but otherwise I feel ok so far. (I went about 3 hrs ago) I have one month to gain some color before a trip to Florida. Any advice would be great! Thx in advance. ^_~
There are fake tan lotions, one I know of is called "Fake Bake". When you have to be out in the sun you will have to use sunscreen so why not use one with a fake tan color and save yourself a lot of misery? BTW I live in the South Pacific and have a darker skin and I don't burn. But my lighter skinned girl friend just uses the fake bake.
I used to tan at a tanning salon and I regret it. Plain and simple, it's horrible for your body. No matter how safe you plan it, it's not safe.
The best thing I can recommend is lay out in the sun for 15-20 minutes every day. Half the time on your stomach, the other half on your back. Don't use sunscreen (will prohibit your body from absorbing vitamin D) or tanning enhancers (they help the cooking process, literally). Just make sure to exfoliate before you go out, and moisturize the crap out of yourself when you get back in. If you're not tanning as quickly as you'd like, invest in Jergens Natural Glow Express for fair to medium skin tones. It's guaranteed to make your skin look darker in just 3 days. It's a natural color, so you won't look orange, and it's just to jumpstart the color you're already working on.
Some people just don't tan! What happens to you if you spend much time outside? Do you naturally tan or do you burn and go back to being fair? Do you have somewhere that you can get exposure to the actual sun? If you do, then my advice would be to try it that way. With tanning beds all you get are the harmful rays. At least with the sun you get the added benefit of vitamin D production. (=
Advice on tanning...yea, DON'T! Anytime UV rays alter the color of your skin pigmentation, you are damaging your skin and raising your risks of developing skin cancer A LOT! Why would you purposely do this to yourself? If you still feel the need to have a darker color to your skin, choose a self tanner or a spray on tan.
Jergens tanning lotion works great!! No streaks or looking orange.

I have some excellent advice. DON'T DO IT!!! The only way you can get a tan is by damaging your skin & the fact that you are fair skinned means you are 4 times as likely to get skin cancer as opposed to medium to darker skinned people. My mil developed a carcinoma on her leg when my daughter was born. I would suggest a self tanner with very little sun or tanning bed exposure
Live and learn right!? Lol
