What's the difference between cheating (on a SO/DH/etc) and having an affair?
I know this post has probably been done before but I'm curious what people think. Also a girl I went to high school with made a post saying her DH cheated.

For me I feel like cheating is more geared towards when you're not married vs. When you're married and one spouse cheats its called having an affair.

What do you ladies think?

I consider cheating as casual sexual encounter. An affair is a long term thing.

Cheating is anything physical or emotional with someone besides your SO. An affair is an ongoing relationship or consistent cheating with someone who is not your SO.

cheating = one time occurrence

affair= emotional or physical relationship that spans a period of time

I always thought they really meant the same.  Maybe a slight different in saying if a person only cheated one time, I guess you wouldn't say they had an affair.  But if someone is having an affair, they would also be cheating, so I think both words would go hand in hand in that way.

It's the same. Both are disrespecting your SO and your relationship.

Cheating/Affair: no matter the length your still being straight up disrespectful to your current spouse/partner.

Cheating is casual sex, flirting, sexting or anything in a sexual manner with someone other then your so. And affair is a long term emotional attachment with someone other then your so. Can be physical or not
