OT - any moms here on hormone thereapy of any kind or have thyroid issues?

Posted by   + Show Post

So long story short, I had severe preeclampsia in my last pregnancy in 2012, so I've seen lots of doctors since then for various things to check for underlying disorders, etc, etc.

Well during all this my general practitioner realized I had been steadily putting on weight for a while now and it's not stopping.  No extreme change in my diet to make me gain and I've tried everything to loose it and I just can't do it.... so he checked my T4 levels, which came back normal.  However he did not check my T3 or TSH.

On top of this, I've had another weird symtom... for about a year now I have had NO sex drive.  Nothing.  I'm 22 and otherwise healthy and I don't know why I do not have a sex drive!  I am wondering if estrogen or something could help this?

I have quit taking my BC and anxiety medication to rule both of these out as factors and I still have not gotten better in either department.

My question is... has anyone else gone through this?  Should I see my OB/GYN in regards to the no sex drive/estrogen medication?  Or should I go to my GP to talk about that problem and get my thyroid rechecked?  Could they be related?  What would you do?

I hope your doctors appt goes well.  I sent you a private messsage.

Quoting MMerrill:

I got my Nexplanon taken out back in October/November and haven't used any kind of hormonal BC since.

I have a doctors appointment today so I guess we will see what she says...then again she will probably make me feel like an idiot, because that entire doctors office sucks.  I really need to find a new doctor but I guess this will do for now!

I just don't feel like those symptoms are normal for an otherwise healthy 22 year old.  It's been going on over a year and I'm fed up with it!

How long ago did you quit taking your BC?   You could talk to your GP and see about getting all your hormone levels checked.  I've read it can be tricky though because one person's normal may be another person's too high or too low.   There are also natural ways of trying to regulate hormones sometimes.

You definitely need to have your TSH and T3 levels checked. Also, just because your doc said your T4 was "normal", it doesn't mean it's where it needs to be. The accepted normal ranges for thyroid bloodwork might not be normal for your body. My GP told me my thyroid was fine and I didn't need to start Synthroid. I still felt so awful that I wasn't convinced. Sure enough, I put my foot down and got in to see an endocrinologist, and guess what? My levels were normal, but not ideal. He put me on Synthroid, and upped it every month or two til he found the right level for me. The difference in how I felt was amazing.

See your primary first to let you know what difficulties your having.  You might have a blood test taken that will assist in knowing what specialist you need to see.
