Is he good at this?

When you're sad or upset over something, is your DH/SO good at comforting you?

My paternal grandmother passed away a while back and now my maternal grandmother is in hospice care so it won't be long now. I've been pretty good about dealing with it, but it's obviously painful to think about losing her. After getting word about her going into hospice, I was pretty upset and DH came home and just took one look at me and gave me a hug. He didn't say a word, didn't ask questions, just held me. I started crying, of course, but I needed that hug more than words can express.

Is your partner a good comfort in times like that?

If it's something serious, kind of.

It's good that he's there for you. Does he listen and offer input if it's something emotional, too?

No, this is the one thing he's not very good at all.  But he will do whatever it is I need him to....I just have to tell him.  He doesn't like any kinds of emotions except happy.

Theoretically, he would be great. He is great at empathizing with and comforting other people.

However, there is no comforting me when I'm upset. I'm difficult like that. If I'm mad or sad, you get the hell out of my way. Don't touch me, don't talk to me, don't even think about talking to me until I've calmed down and had a moment to think. When I'm done with that, I'll find him, and he'll always be there.
