My Mom

My mom has been married for 21 years to her current husband.  Today as we circled the parking lot of Walmart, waiting for her husband to come out we were talking about her husband.  She said to me, "I tell Russell to take care of something and he takes care of it.  I am still not used to that."  She was quiet for a few minutes then she said, "I've always had to take care of myself.  Even when I was married to your Daddy."

I just kind of smiled at her, "Yeah, it's great to know that you can count on someone, isn't it?"

It kinda makes me sad that she is 75 and not used to being loved the way she deserves  The way every woman deserves.

Mine bitched and whines 90% of the time. It’s just easier to do it myself.

I was married to someone who had the "What's in it for me?" response. Literally. The sink in the girl's bathroom was draining very very slowly, so I asked him to look into it. He honestly said to me "What's in it for me?".

WTF.

"Never mind, I'll do it myself".  That stays with me, still.
